Short history of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering was established as an independent unit of the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology in 1946 as a result of the division of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Electrotechnology that had been created at the time of the founding of Wroclaw University of Science and Technology in 1945.
On 15th November 1945 professor Kazimierz Idaszewski held the first lecture after war on electrical machines for the students of Electrical Department. This day is considered to be the day of the inauguration of higher education in Wroclaw and the very beginning of activity of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology.
Since 1968 the Faculty of Electrical Engineering has consisted of three Institutes. At that time these were: the Institute of Electrical Power Engineering, the Institute of Electromachine Systems and the Institute of Electrical Metrology. Now it comprises the Department of Electrical Engineering and Technology Fundamentals (W5/K1), the Department of Electrical Power Engineering (W5/K2) and the Department of Electrical Machines, Drives and Measurements (W5/K3). During 72 years around 14 thousand students, 514 doctors, 92 D.Sc. (habilitated doctors) and 47 professors have graduated from the Faculty. The Faculty employs nowadays around 100 academic teachers and about 52 non-academic employees.
