FAQ

In a Double Degree program, you study at two universities. Depending on the specific program and the partner university, you spend 2 or 3 semesters abroad. You write one Master's thesis and defend it once, but at the end of your studies, you receive two diplomas – one from each university.

  • EU students do not pay any tuition fees at either university
  • Non-EU students are usually exempt from tuition fees at the partner university but must pay tuition fees at WUST
  • All students are responsible for covering their travel and accommodation costs
  • If you choose a program within the EU, you may be eligible for Erasmus+ funding for up to 12 months

The program is open to:

  • Candidates with a BSc/BEng diploma in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Applicants must have an overall grade of at least "good" (PL: 4.0) on their Bachelor's diploma
  • Non-EU students are also welcome to apply

Detailed language requirements for each Double Degree program are listed in their respective program descriptions. However, the general requirements are as follows:

  • For EU and non-EU candidates:
    • TOEFL – minimum 213 points (computer-based) or 79 points (internet-based)
    • IELTS – minimum 6.0
    • Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) – minimum grade C
    • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency (CPE) – minimum grade B
    • UNICERT III
  • For WUST students and alums, a B2-level English exam passed with a minimum score of 4.0

If you are interested in the Double Degree program, you must apply to:

  • A selected English-taught Master's program at WUST – either Renewable Energy Systems (RES) or Control in Electrical Power Engineering (CEP). Check which Double Degree options are available for your chosen program
  • The Double Degree partner university program

Before applying, contacting the WUST program coordinator is essential, as your nomination for the Double Degree program is required. Please fill in the form before.

  • The application deadline at WUST is July 1st
  • Deadlines at partner universities may vary. For example, you must apply to the University of Toronto as early as March

👉Detailed deadlines, application links, and procedures can be found in the descriptions of each Double Degree program.

  • EU students participating in the Double Degree program do not pay any tuition fees at either WUST or the partner university
  • Non-EU students are usually exempt from tuition fees at the partner university, but must pay tuition fees at WUST according to the standard fee structure
  • All students are responsible for covering their travel, accommodation, and living expenses during the mobility period

👉 Specific tuition policies and exemptions may vary depending on the partner university. Please refer to the individual program descriptions for detailed information, links, and procedures.

Students participating in the Double Degree program can also apply for an Erasmus+ grant to cover their mobility period abroad.

  • The Erasmus+ recruitment process occurs once a year, typically in January/February, meaning students must decide on their participation in the Double Degree program well in advance
  • The maximum funding period is 12 months
  • Please note that the Erasmus+ grant is unavailable for mobility to Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University)

👉Detailed information about the Erasmus+ grant, including eligibility and application procedures, can be found here.

  • Students complete their Master's thesis and its defense at the university where they spend their final semester
  • If the final semester is at WUST, the thesis process follows the standard procedure for English-taught programs. Detailed guidelines are available here
  • If the thesis is completed at the partner university, the student must:
    1. Find a supervisor at the partner institution and agree on the thesis topic
    2. Inform the double degree coordinator and supervisor at WUST about the topic
    3. Based on this information, a supporting supervisor at WUST will be assigned to handle formalities, including the anti-plagiarism procedure
    4. The student must complete a Topic Approval Form and send it to the supporting supervisor at WUST
    5. After the thesis defense at the partner university, the student must submit a printed copy of the thesis, signed by the supporting supervisor, to WUST

After completing the mobility period, the student must send the following documents to the Double Degree coordinator at WUST:

  • The updated study plan, including final grades
  • The Transcript of Records (TOR) from the partner university
  • Based on these documents, the coordinator will calculate and convert the grades.
  • The signed conversion document is then collected by the student and submitted to the Dean's Office along with the application for recognition of academic achievements and any other documents required by the faculty
